How to generate ideas for writing

You’re sitting at your desk staring at a blank page (or blank computer screen) thinking about what to write about.

It seems like all the best ideas have already been taken and you are in search of that one great idea.

Many writers experience this problem from time to time.

One of the best sources of good writing ideas is often found close to home—in your own observations and experiences. To get ideas for writing, start by thinking about the things that interest you most. What are your hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time? What are some of the issues that you’re passionate about?

Let’s now look at some practical ways to generate ideas for writing so that you can go away with as many good ideas as possible for your next writing masterpiece. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, these methods should help jumpstart the creative process.

Brainstorm with someone else

Collaborating with another person can help stimulate new ideas and perspectives. If you’re feeling stuck, try bouncing ideas off of a friend or colleague.

Take a walk

Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery. Getting out of the house (or office) can help clear your head and give you a fresh perspective. And who knows? You might find inspiration in your surroundings!

You’ll be surprised at how many good ideas you can come up with just by taking a walk and letting your mind wander.

Keep a journal

A journal is a great place to capture ideas as they come to you. Whenever you have a thought or idea, jot it down in your journal. You can refer back to these entries when you’re ready to start writing.

Doodle

Don’t underestimate the power of doodling! Drawing simple pictures or patterns can help get the creative juices flowing. And who knows? Your doodle might turn into a full-blown piece of artwork! Doodles are a great way to generate ideas.

Research what people are looking for

One way to come up with ideas is to see what people are searching for online. Use keyword research tools like Google AdWords or Moz Keyword Explorer to find popular topics in your industry.

Hang out on forums and social media groups

Best Social Media For Website Traffic

Another way to get ideas is to see what people are talking about on forums and social media groups. Check out sites like Reddit or search for relevant Facebook groups.

Facebook Groups are particularly great as you can find communities with interests that align with what you write about. For example, if you’re a freelance writer who writes about health and fitness, you can try joining groups like “Health Freelancers” or “Fitness Enthusiasts.”

Just being active and socializing with like-minded people in these groups is great for generating ideas.

Read other blogs in your industry

Keep tabs on what other bloggers in your industry are writing about. This will give you a sense of the latest trends and topics that are resonating with people.

You can use RSS readers to keep track of new blog posts from your favorite websites.

Check out online magazines and journals

Online magazines and journals can be a great source of inspiration. Browse through some of your favorite sites and see what articles are being published.

You can also use Google Scholar to find academic papers that are relevant to your field.

Go on question-answer sites (like Quora) to find out what people are asking

Question-answer sites like Quora can be a goldmine for finding writing ideas. Simply search for a topic that you’re interested in, and see what questions people are asking.

“How do I tell if my phone has been hacked?”

“What do I do if I dropped my phone in water?”

“I scored 99% on a Maths test. Am I a failure?”.

Answering or even looking at such questions can start to fuel more ideas for your writing.

You can also use Quora’s “Explore” feature to find popular topics and trending stories.

Get inspired by art, music, and nature

Art, music, films, and nature can all be great sources of inspiration. If you’re feeling creatively blocked, try taking a trip to the museum or going for a walk in the park.

You’d be quite surprised at how much they can fuel your creative thinking. There have been many times when I’ve watched a great film and come up with original ideas.

You might also want to try listening to some music or looking at artwork before you start writing.

Use an AI tool to get rid of writers block

If you’re struggling to come up with ideas, try using an AI tool like Jasper AI. Jasper can help you brainstorm and generate new ideas for your writing. It’s a great tool for writing quickly.

You can use it to help you come up with a great idea or handle all the writing for you. In fact, AI is being used increasingly to help anyone write engaging content quickly.

Jasper is mainly used to speed up the blog writing process. However, it can also be used for any other type of writing as well. It has also been used to write an entire novel in 7 days!

To use Jasper, simply type in a keyword or topic, and the AI will generate a list of related topics and ideas.

Once you have a list of potential ideas, it’s time to start writing! Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to generating ideas. The best approach is to try out different methods and see what works for you.

How I used AI to come up with cool ideas for writing

I’m mainly a blogger. One of the issues I constantly face is coming up with new blog post ideas. Many of the times I do rely on keyword research tools to find topics to write about.

But those topics are usually already covered by other people.

It was around this time that I decided to try out the Jasper AI writing tool.

Not only does it help me come up with great blog post ideas (I use it in conjunction with SurferSEO), but it also helped me get rid of writer’s block when it came to writing the actual content.

I’m on the Boss Mode plan. This let’s me direct the AI writing tool in the direction that I want it to write.

The tool is really smart and you can talk to it as if you are talking to a personal writing assistant. You can literally ask it to write just about anything.

For example, this is a command I just gave Jasper:

> write some fun blog post titles

– How to overcome writers block using AI

– 10 essay writing tips for lazy students

– The best ways to procrastinate on your essays

– 7 ways to make your research paper stand out

– 5 easy steps to a perfect essay

Not too bad, especially given that I didn’t give it too much context.

Summary

Generating writing ideas can be tough, but it’s definitely doable with a bit of creativity and effort.

Whether you’re struggling to come up with topics for your blog, looking for story ideas, or trying to find ways to get started on an essay or research paper, these tips should help.

Motivation also plays a part in good writing. Make sure you find ways to stay motivated whenever you sit down to write.

And if all else fails, don’t forget that there are tools available to help jump start the creative process. So don’t give up – keep writing and you’ll eventually find yourself hitting your stride.
