How long does it take to write a 2000 word blog post in general?
This is a difficult question to answer, as it can vary so much from person to person. Some people can sit down and bang out a 2000 word article in an hour or two, while others might take days or even weeks. There are a lot of factors that play into how long it takes to write something like this, including:
- How well you know the topic
- How fast you can type
- How much research you need to do
- Whether or not you’re writing for fun or for money
For us, writing a 2000 word blog post usually falls somewhere in the middle. We generally spend anywhere from four to six hours writing one of these posts, depending on the topic and how much research is required.
This might seem like a lot of time, but keep in mind that we’ve been writing for years and have a lot of experience.
If you’re just starting out, it’s perfectly normal to spend more time on something like this. In fact, it’s probably a good idea to give yourself extra time when writing your first few blog posts. That way, you won’t feel rushed and can take the time to edit and revise as needed.
How many headings do you need in a 2000 word blog post?
This is a question that doesn’t have a clear answer. It depends on your actual writing style, the topic of your blog post, and how you want to organize your thoughts. That said, we generally recommend having at least three or four headings in a 2000 word blog post. This allows you to break up your thoughts into manageable chunks and makes for an easier read.
How long should each section be?
Again, this varies depending on the writer and the topic. However, as a general rule of thumb, each section should be around 500 words long. This gives you enough room to explore your topic without going off on too many tangents. Plus, it’s easy for readers to digest information when it’s presented in small, manageable chunks.
How many paragraphs are there in a 2000 word blog post?
There are typically around eight paragraphs in a 2000 word blog post. This can vary, of course, depending on the writer’s style and the topic of the blog post.
However, in general, you should aim for around eight paragraphs. This will give you enough space to explore your topic without going overboard. Plus, it’s easy for readers to follow along when information is presented in small chunks.
What are some tips for writing efficiently?
There are a few things you can do to write more efficiently. First, try to batch your writing sessions. This means setting aside a specific amount of time each day or week to write. This will help you get into the habit of writing regularly and make it easier to sit down and focus when it’s time to write.
Second, create an outline before you start writing. This will help you organize your thoughts and keep on track while you’re writing. Lastly, don’t be afraid to take breaks! Getting up and moving around every once in awhile will actually help you focus when you sit back down to write.
Make sure that you always prioritize writing high quality content rather than rushing to get articles out there quickly. Some topics will take longer time to carry out research, whereas other topics may not need much research at all. If you’re looking to blog for affiliate income, you will need to balance between writing fast and writing quality content as you will need a lot of content quickly.
Steps to writing a 2000 word blog post (or more)
Here are the overall steps you should take when writing a 2000 word blog post:
- Choose a topic and narrow it down.
- Do some initial research.
- Create an outline.
- Write your intro paragraph.
- Write each section of your blog post.
- Write your conclusion paragraph.
- Edit and revise as needed.
These are just general guidelines for an average blog post, of course, and you can always adjust them to fit your needs. The most important thing is to just sit down and start writing! The more you do it, the easier it will become. And before you know it, you’ll be cranking out 2000 word blog posts like a pro!
Breaking down the time it takes to write a 2000 word blog post from scratch

Let’s now break down the time it takes to write a typical blog post with a word count of 2000 or more from scratch. This includes coming up with a topic, doing research, creating an outline, writing the actual post, and editing/revising as needed.
Come up with a topic
The time it takes to come up with a topic for your article will vary depending on a few factors. If you’re writing for a specific outlet or have a general idea of what you want to write about, it will be easier to come up with a topic. However, if you’re starting from scratch, it may take some time to brainstorm ideas and settle on a topic that’s both interesting and feasible.
Keyword research tools can come in handy to help speed this process up as it lets you write about topics that people actually want to read.
Once you have a great topic, also spend some time to come up with a catchy title.
Let’s say that coming up with a topic takes about 30 minutes but could be much less (or maybe even more) than that.
Do some initial research
Once you have a topic in mind, it’s time to do some initial research. This step is important because it will help you gain a better understanding of your topic and make sure that you have enough material to work with.
Depending on the complexity of your topic and the amount of information available, this step could take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.
Create an outline
After you’ve done some research, it’s time to create an outline. This will help you organize your thoughts and make sure that your blog post has a clear structure. This is usually part of the writing process of a blog.
Creating an outline shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes or so.
Write your intro paragraph
Once you have a topic and an outline, you’re ready to start writing! The first step is to write your introduction paragraph. This is where you’ll give an overview of what the blog post will be about and hook readers in with an interesting opening line.
Writing a great intro paragraph can take some time, so let’s say this step takes about 20 minutes on average.
Write each section of your blog post
Now it’s time to start writing the actual content of your blog post. This will vary depending on how many sections you have in your outline.
This will also vary depending on how fast you write and how well you know the material. But the actual time spent writing on average should be about 20 minutes per section (assuming each section is about 500 words).
Write your conclusion paragraph
After writing the main body of your blog post, it’s time to write a conclusion paragraph. This is where you’ll sum up everything that you’ve talked about and leave readers with a final thought or call to action.
Again, writing a great conclusion paragraph can take some time. So let’s say this step takes about 20 minutes on average.
Edit and revise as needed
The final step is to edit and revise your article in order to improve your blog post quality. This includes proofreading for spelling mistakes or grammatical errors, ensuring that the content flows well, and making any necessary changes.
Editing and revising will vary depending on the length of your blog post and how much work it needs. But on average, this step should take about 30 minutes to an hour.
Adding images or videos
If you’re looking to write a blog post that would benefit from visual content, then you’ll also need to spend some time finding and adding images or videos.
Depending on the format of your blog post, this could take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
Adding links
Blog posts that include internal links (hyperlinks on your post linking out to your other individual blog posts on your website) and external links (hyperlinks on your post linking out to external sources) are great for SEO as they help build trust and authority within Google.
This has the benefit of getting you even more traffic.
While you don’t need links per se, it can be really advantageous if you want your blog to keep growing over the long term.
The time it takes will vary depending on the format of your blog post and how many links you’re including. But on average, this step should take about 15 minutes.
Publishing and distribution
The final step is to publish your blog post and get it out there for people to read!
If you’re self-hosting your blog, then this step will involve logging into your website’s backend, creating a new post, and adding your content.
If you’re using a platform like WordPress or Medium, then this process is usually much simpler as you can just hit the “publish” button.
Once your blog post is live, the next step is to promote the web page via social media posts and/or other forms of driving traffic. This part is entirely up to you and how much time and effort you want to put into getting people to read your blog post. The more articles you write, the more traffic you will build up over time. This is one of the core strategies of content marketing.
Total time it takes to write a 2000 word blog post
Based on the above, we can assume that a 2000 word blog post takes the following amount of time:
- Choosing a topic: 30 minutes
- Research: two hours
- Creating an outline: 30 minutes
- Writing the intro paragraph: 15 minutes
- Writing each section: one hour
- Writing the conclusion paragraph: 15 minutes
- Editing and revising: one hour
In total, it should take you around five hours to write a 2000 word blog post from start to finish. Of course, this is just for the average blog post and will vary depending on your writing speed, how well you know the topic, and how much research is required. But five hours is a good estimate of the time it takes to write a 2000 word blog post.

More time will need to be taken if you intend to write high quality blog posts for SEO.
Here are some other tips that can help you produce blog content even faster.
Improve your knowledge
If you’re writing about a topic that you’re already familiar with, then it will be much easier and faster to write about.
Before you start writing, make sure to do your research on the topic. This will help you save time later on when you’re writing as you won’t have to stop and look up information while you’re in the middle of writing.
Create a content calendar
Creating a content calendar can help you plan out your blog posts in advance and make sure that you’re always ahead of schedule. This is especially helpful if you need to produce a lot of content quickly.
Hire a freelance writer
If all else fails, hiring a freelance writer can be a great way to get your blog post written quickly and efficiently. Just make sure that you hire someone who is knowledgeable about the topic so that you don’t have to spend time editing their work.
Get faster at typing
If you’re struggling to keep up with your thoughts while you’re writing, then it might be time to invest in a better keyboard or learn how to type faster. You can usually write quickly if you learn how to type quicker.
There are a lot of online typing courses that can help you improve your speed and accuracy. Just a few minutes of practice each day can make a big difference in how fast you can write.
